Hey gang...as usual, it's been a few weeks/months since I posted, but I really am trying to interact here more.
So what's been going on? Quite a few things...
1- I finished my last commission! HOLY COW! I'm really proud of her too...
2- I work part-time in a jewelry store and I'll be also helping a friend who owns a beadshop when she's short-staffed. That's on top of working full-time and working on my jewelry and now art!
3- I went to the Gem Fair last weekend and got some KICK-ASS minerals...
Alas, there were no beads or cabs that I found nearly as interesting. I did put myself forward to have a booth next year for selling my jewelry...
4- I'm giving product photography lessons! It's a basic course and quick designed for people who have regular digital cameras rather than fancy ones. I'll be showing people the important settings on their cameras and what they do, showing them two ways of shooting their products, one using natural light and the other using a light box and I'll be quickly showing them how to edit their photos using Photoscape, a free and very cool program...
I'm very excited and very nervous!5- I did a Tupperware party and people actually came over! I guess 3rd time-slot was the charm...
6- I HAVE A PINK XMAS TREE! I'm not shitting you! I'll take photos as soon as it's up!
7- I'm contemplating offering very inexpensive pencil drawing commissions. I mean REALLY inexpensive considering what you'd be getting! 50$ per character...that's it! Super special price to get me back in the swing of things! Just to show you a preview, and get you all excited, here's a WIP of an example I'm doing for all of you.
The commissions are going to be images just like this one. They are traditional pencil busts (chest up) in B&W at 11" x14" on Bristol and you'll have the option to have the original mailed to you if you want it. I'll have to see how much shipping I will be though and you'll have the option to have it mailed flat or rolled. Same kind of detail as above. These are not quick sketches. I've already put 5 hours+ into the WIP above....
Once I'm done this drawing, I'll be opening 5 slots to begin with... The reason I'm doing these so inexpensively is so I can have extra money to keep paying off my debt. By the end of the year, I will have paid off over 5000$ of my debt, but I still will have about the same left and if I can do these and make enough money to gain financial freedom quicker, it would be wonderful! I'm DYING to move on with my life and actually be able to DO things!
8- RIP Kaleeka: Nov. 3rd, 1994 - Sept. 18th 2011.
Sadly my baby girl, Kaleeka, breathed her last in my arms on Sept. 18th. She was 16 years old and Nov. 3rd would have been her 17th b-day. Needless to say, the 3rd was an excruciatingly hard day. If you're interested in Kalee's story, you can read it on my blog here: Kalee's Story
I still am grieving for her and I miss her every single day. It took me more than 3 weeks to sit on the couch where we last cuddled while waiting for my friend to bring me to the DMV to put her to sleep. Once I finally was able to sit, with help from a friend, it took me nearly as long again to take off the blanket that was on the couch. Again, I needed my friend's help as I could not do it alone.
Thanks to one of my other friends, I found out about an amazing company that cremated beloved pets in a very special way. Each pet is cremated by themselves and they're respectfully treated. I have Kalee's ashes as well as a beautiful card with her fur in it, the poignant Rainbow Bridge poem and a special cookie. It's a heart and one half was put with her and the other half was given to me. I'm keeping it for now, but I think eventually I will break it up and share it with August and Jessica in tribute.
That's about it for now. Hopefully I'll get my drawing done ASAP so I have time for a drawing or two for Xmas!
